CANON: Magi
NAME: Alibaba Saluja
AGE: 18
CANON: Magi
CANON HISTORY: http://hero.wikia.com/wiki/Alibaba_Saluja
CANON PERSONALITY:
Alibaba is the kind of guy who would take the entire world on his shoulders and right every wrong if he could. As his childhood was spent living in the ghetto, until his father, who was a king, took him to his palace to educate him and rescue Alibaba from poverty. One thing he had observed from both ends of the society, is people are the same regardless of economic class, people can make their own choices, for either good or ill. However, if someone choosing to harm another, then for the simple reason that it is the right thing to do, evil should be stopped. When presented the threat of a secret organization which threatens to harm humanity, he wants to jump into the fray with almost no hesitation, so they can’t try put anyone in the poverty he was forced to live in but was lucky enough to escape.
He believes his worth is tied to how he enriches his friends and those around him. When he was under the impression his friends thought poorly of him, he cried and fought a sea monster to demonstrate his worth, almost immediately afterward was crushed when one of his friends managed to do a full Djinn equip and used said power to fight pirates Alibaba was initially useless against, in addition at the time he was unable to use a full Djinn equip so he felt inferior and needed to prove himself.
He attempted to tackle problems without help or advice, even when a clearly more capable person was more than willing to assist him with those issues. An example would be trying to fix a huge economic problem in his home nation, resulting in him attempting to storm the palace by himself and nearly getting himself killed early on.
He is Empathetic, in multiple fights he will often cry while empathizing with the plight of one of his allies or enemies, preferring to empathize rather than killing them (in fact, he has never killed and refuses to kill). A notable list of princesses, princes and evil masterminds have been spared at his hands (he would even merge his soul with theirs). In the context of the anime this is typically presented itself as a good trait to have but can easily be exploited. When he merged his soul with his best friend, he was unable to channel his magoi properly and needed to undergo at least a year’s worth of training to perform a full Djinn equip. While fighting an enemy princess, he transformed into a dark king when he was consumed by all the negative energy she had. Despite how its exploited in the show, it is also emphasized as the trait which makes him a king’s candidate (short list of chosen ones who might rule the world).
Optimistic, when he had a decision to make involving two options, he will often attempt the option that will give him everything he wants, regardless if the probability of success is near impossible. When his best friend transformed into a demon and the choice is presented between to kill him, thus saving his nation, or, trying to save him via spirt link so his friend wouldn’t need to die for the nation to be saved. When he fails however, he is devastated and has flash backs regarding it for a while afterward blaming himself for “killing his friend”.
Extremely emotional, his emotions can be easily manipulated. In fact, when his friends pranked him by simply lying about what they thought about him within ear shot…He broke down crying and spirals into depression. Enemies have made a point to use his emotions to essentially trick him into a killing rage, transforming him into a dark king and nearly killed his own friends as a result.
Hot headed, charges into dangerous situations without thinking. When storming the palace and discovered that his attacks were useless against a dark djinn, he pressured his friend to throw him to repeat the same useless attack, almost getting himself killed.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
*Royal sword play: learned while he lived in the palace of his home country Balbad used knives along with speed and agility to his advantage. Can’t use two handed weapons (such as Amon’s blade). In addition, no heavy armor can be worn as this style relies on dodging opponent’s strikes and taking advantage of openings. Difficult to fight against armored opponents as the style doesn’t emphasize a single killing blow but weakening using many cuts
-Heavy sword training: Has learned how to use two handed weapons, can pierce through armor and thick hides more easily after studying this form of fighting, even if he is using a knife
*Reads Tarmon: equivalent to ancient Arabic
* Amon: fire Genie which allows Alibaba to channel his magoi into the following abilities
-fire generation (the blade used leaves a trail of fire)
-immunity to fire and heat
-regains magoi via absorbing another source of fire
-Must be inside a metal vessel for powers to be used (a metal object that the person has an attachment to, Alibaba has a knife which he bought with his father, Amon lives inside that knife)
*Partial djinn equip: (knife or sword transforms into Amon’s blade) flames are stronger (can project fire a short distance from blade, the weapon will be able to “cut through anything” (expectations have been other metal vessels and magical barriers)
* Controlled Partial Djinn equip: Instead of the weapon of choice transforming into Amon’s blade, he may instead channel his magoi to keep the shape of his current weapon Alibaba is using.
*Full djinn equip (takes the form of Amon, a living flame essentially, in this form he can dive into molten lava and come out refreshed and ready to fight at full strength, can project fire balls and fly)
*extreme magic (once in full djinn equip form, can perform his most powerful magic involving fire, typically a giant fire ball. However using it would severely drain him (can be used 2 times max before needing to either rest or recharge through other means)
Anmon/Alibaba(not clear in anime) can essentially bestow similar powers to one other person, by granting them the use of Anmon’s pet Hawk, making that person a “household member” which allows them to…
a) Have resistance to fire and heat
b) Send the Hawk as a fireball
c) Fly
d) Limited use of fire and heat
e) The Hawk must dwell in a metal vessel, additional utility depends on the metal vessel

AU AGE: 17
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: none
AU HISTORY:
Growing up with his single mother, who was a prostitute, Albert had to learn to steal to get by. As he didn’t want to be a heavy burden to his mother, in his mind’s eye, stealing was the means where he could try to prevent his mother from being beaten and used by his father when she was called for (by having “just enough” to not need his money). However aside from having money, his father was also a mob boss, in other words, she typically was only able to delay meeting him for about a week at the most, he was her “best paying customer”. In addition, whenever they did go to his house Al would be fed and be allowed to sleep there. Considering their desperate position, they couldn't afford to ignore his regular yearnings for her (Typically at least once a month).
His mother kept urging Albert to pursue his studies and stop stealing so he wouldn't get into trouble. However, she seldom had the energy to enforce those suggestions. Leading him to often steal behind her back and not exactly doing his best at school. Whenever Albert would steal, he typically would plant extra money in his mother's purse, so he can do his part to lighten her burden. Albert hated himself whenever he thought he added any more hardship on his mother, a fact she very well knew and would use to push him to try to apply himself at school, which resulted in him getting okay grades.
One night on one of these booty calls when Albert was 14 years old, he was sleeping on the couch in his father’s place there was a drug bust resulting in a bloody gunfight. Afterwards, Albert’s mom tries to find him, resulting in her getting shot by one of the cops. Albert runs toward her and watches her die, thus to this day sufferings from PTSD and blames himself for his mother’s death. In addition, to this day he resents uniformed police officers, and can either boil into rage or sadness when in the presence of armed police officers.
After that day he was placed in a foster home, understandably he was incredibly depressed. Tragic events aside, he received neglectful treatment because his “sad face makes them look bad”, thus the foster family acted rather coldly toward Albert, only appearing affectionate whenever a social worker would appear. Initially, Albert was hopeful that they would warm up to him and even attempted to steal to benefit his new family, which just resulted in him getting into trouble, thus social workers would tend to be cautious about any claims Albert asserted about his new family. The common thought regarding his stealing habit by social workers at the time was a simple rebellion against his situation and the new family couldn't be blamed since Albert's loss was recent or maybe Albert was an at-risk youth thus staying with this family would be better than moving him.
This lead to some mandatory therapy sessions in which Albert refused to open due to mistrust, they typically only spoke about what had happened in school and if he had developed friendships in school or not. One of the few things Albert revealed was he daydreams quite often to try to cope with his loneliness and feels that no one trusts him or even values him as a person since his mother died.
After the end of the school year, Albert spiralled into a darker depression still, with extremely low self-esteem, he decides to run and let the streets dictate his fate, as he was born there, he might as well die there. One of the first things he did was hitchhiking to try to create some distance between himself and his foster family. Eventually, he gets caught and gets processed by a social worker who believed him, thus putting him in the nearest orphanage which was in recolle.
Not wanting to be at the mercy of fate again, he tries to be more cautious this time around, the Matthew family expressed interest in adopting him, by eased dropping on all the buzz in the orphanage and talking to a surprisingly forthcoming social worker. He learned that this family was supposed to be “the best an orphan can ask for”. To his amazement the screening process was a breeze for them, unlike the last foster family who suffered from delays, thus Albert concluded they were his best shot…if anything else, disappearing with a good name.
The Matthew family soon enough adopts Albert and he uses their last name as both a manner of respect and in attempts to sooth his paranoia about his mobster family back in Los Angeles. He was VERY closed off, barely speaking to anyone at first. At school, he basically kept to himself, as he believed the Matthew family would soon tire of him and if for some reason fate were to turn against him, he should take matters into his own hands again. The affection this new family offers him is almost alien to him at times(especially from his new father), he enjoys it but, he doesn’t want to grow dependent on it.
The 1st year he was constantly preparing himself to run at a moment’s notice since he realized that he CAN do something on his own…survive, he could essentially leave and be a burden to no one. In fact, he almost did run away because he felt guilty for not returning their affections but getting caught by his older brother Derek Mathews “gathering funds” at a large park near the edge of the city. Most of the family has heard of Al because of this incident, not passing a year in school and possibly may have heard of his stealing habit. Al doesn’t resent his family for thinking negatively of him and worries that he may have already sealed his fate by trying to avoid what he feared. His new mother and father are very loving, and Al is trying to adjust but is self-doubts and self-blame gets in the way of his progress.
He has no ambitions or goals in life, as he struggles to picture what a normal life looks like. Only relatively recently has he started to open himself up to his family and started making some friendships, but he is terrified deep down that something could take everything away from him again. Despite his hardships, he tries to tackle them with a sense of humour, or at least with some measure of sarcasm as to not confront his feelings directly. Whenever they do come up, he is quick to repress them, having no one that he trusts to help him navigate his feelings.
AU PERSONALITY:
-Deep down he is an optimist like his cannon counterpart, however given his life experiences he is more fragile in the inside, however does a much better job projecting a false self then his cannon counterpart would.
-Is hard on himself, frequently blames himself like is canon counter part
-Stubborn, like is cannon self he will often stick to one course of action, even if said plan is flawed… or sometimes useless he can’t think of anything else
-Emotional, his Emotions run rampant and can be quite unpredictable, a little more extreme than his cannon counter part
-Although he can be altruistic, he wouldn’t necessarily make the sacrifices his cannon self would. Albert believes in a “greater good” in a utilitarian sense rather than being an idealist. Towards the friend vs nation question, Albert would cry but would kill to save the nation instead of trying to save him.
- Unlike his cannon counter-part, Albert is comfortable with morally questionable options if it furthers his own goals or those he is concerned about
-Doubtful, unlike his cannon counterpart. Albert has a hard time accepting good things happening to him unless he made it happen himself. Alibaba tends to go with the flow and simply takes good things as they come
- Deflective, often will shift the blame to fate such as “fate made me a thief” or alternatively will use fate as an excuse like “I wanted to change someone’s fate, the best way I could.” will also deflect his feelings by use of either sarcasm or humor. Canonically Alibaba doesn’t deflect his emotion, but rather gets withdrawn when he is depressed, in addition, Alibaba’s feelings toward fate is essentially all are equal, and fate is something to be overcome, not a force which controls everyone (this attitude is developed after the dark king fiasco when he curses his fate and sees it as an oppressive force)
-insecure, both are insecure and doubt their abilities and what they can do, Albert however having to survive on his own rather then being rescued by royalty can at least identify is a thief, rather than Alibaba whose identity was in flux for a while before he made one for himself (he wasn’t recognized as the 3rd prince of balbad for most of his life)
-Loyalty, they differ in their loyalty, Alibaba allies himself with a prince whose country is oppressing his nation, but rather then hating him, Alibaba goes out of his way to try to support the prince as they traveled together. Albert on the other hand would be slow to create those deep bonds, and his sense of loyalty may shift depending on his mood, however if he genuinely trusted someone then he would most likely lay down his life for that person.

Notes
Magoi is not directly explained in the show, however it is implied to be entangled with a person’s lifeforce, as there are instances of people being drained of their “magoi” and die even though the physical body wasn’t damaged via physical means. It is the basis of Magic as well, so a person’s physical fitness contributes to how much magoi they can use. If magoi is overused, the user becomes exhausted and runs the chance of death. Some characters, when using too much magoi, bleed from the effort and need emergency medical attention or risk death. Whenever characters are getting tired in a long fight, they will often worry about how much magoi they have rather than simply being exhausted.
Household Vessels/Powers are also unclear in the show. It is implied that the two must be close. For example, Alibaba’s household member is a very close friend (possible romantic feelings) of his, named Morgiana. It seems a strong bond must exist between the two for it to happen. However, a prequel establishes, in one scene alone, without explanation, that one who has the Djinn must first give the household power…however the prequel doesn’t have any more episodes afterward which explain that scene. The character who received the household power does not appear again (but it is implied he will later). In the anime itself there might be conditions implied. Morgiana was risking her life trying to access the household vessel’s powers, but only after Amon invites her to “use the power of my pet” does her metal vessel utilize any abilities and receives the ability to use said powers and manipulate her metal vessel effectively afterward. As far as I know, this entire process was out of Alibaba’s control other than suggesting to Morgiana that she be his household member, but there was no “giving” of power like the prequel suggests.
Unfortunately, the prequel anime is not currently running any more episodes to my knowledge, nor is the anime itself continuing. So some of these questions may remain unanswered until they produce more episodes (or possibly dive into the manga for answers because I am currently using only the anime). Any guesses I make regarding mechanics are my interpretation of implied scenes and wiki entries that use the manga as a source
